UroLift

What is the UroLift® System?

The UroLift® System is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or enlarged prostate. This revolutionary approach to treating BPH has been clinically proven to be both safe and effective at improving symptoms.

One of the primary advantages of the UroLift® System is the speed of the process. The procedure takes less than an hour and most patients are able to go home the same day, catheter-free. Although there may be some mild urinary discomfort, symptom relief is generally quick and can happen as early as 2 weeks following the procedure.

Benefits of Choosing the UroLift® System

  • Improved Quality of Life
  • Lower Risk than Other Options
  • No Negative Impact on Sexual Function
  • No Ongoing Medications
  • No Removal of Tissue or Part of the Prostate

How Does the UroLift® System Work?

While the patient is under general anesthesia, the doctor will insert the UroLift® delivery device through the compressed urethra. Small, permanent implants are then placed so the enlarged prostate tissue is lifted and held in a way that doesn’t compress the urethra, allowing urine to flow normally. Although patients may experience a small amount of blood in their urine and some minor discomfort for a few days following the procedure, regular activities can usually be resumed within 48 hours.

Am I a Candidate for UroLift®?

If you’re a man over the age of 45 suffering from symptoms of BPH and have a small to moderate sized prostate, you may be a good candidate for this treatment. The UroLift® has a success rate over 90% and the majority of patients never need to have the implants replaced. Particular large prostates may not be suitable for this treatment, but this can be determined by the physicians at Urology Specialists of Georgia. For those who are treated with the UroLift® unsuccessfully, the procedure does not affect you ability to have future treatments.
